The Calais Circus: Generosity: Sharing on a BIG Scale

Bruno, coordinator of the Calais Générosité event in collaboration with the city of Calais, proudly recounts how this exceptional event, which began in Saint-Omer fifteen years ago, is now a key fixture in Calais's festive calendar. "What we offer here is much more than just a show," he explains. "Calais Générosité is a true highlight in Calais, where generosity and passion come together to welcome up to 40,000 visitors."

With keywords like generosity, volunteering, and large-scale eventBruno describes the scope of the project. Each year, the event mobilizes around a hundred people, who enthusiastically come together to transform Calais into a hub of creativity, humor, and acrobatics. “The idea was to create a unique event!” he says, a bit like a large family, where everyone contributes their energy and passion to offer the public unforgettable moments. This year, more than ever, the event shines with its international dimension: artists from all over the world, from Mexico to Brazil and across Europe, will share their talents with the Calais audience.

"It's extraordinary, almost all 21 performances are sold out!" The artists tell us how much they feel at home here. "We've created a real family," explains Bruno, adding that the volunteers work tirelessly to get everything ready in just two weeks.

“It is the involvement of everyone, from the volunteers to the artists, that makes this event so great and so generous.”

The program for this edition is as impressive as it is varied, with spectacular and innovative acts. “We want to offer something unique and different to the public every year.” This year, there will be humor, acrobatics, BMX, and even drones! Other unique moments await the audience, including the show Dance on the dance floor, which brings together 17 local dance groups for a show lasting over 2.5 hours, an addition which, according to Bruno, “will illustrate once again the scope and diversity of our Calais Generosity.”

He concluded emotionally, “This annual gathering is much more than an event; it’s a time for reunions. Every September, we all eagerly await getting together to experience and share this adventure.”
