To mark the tenth anniversary of David Bowie's passing, the City of Calais has partnered with Jean-Charles Gautier, a collector based on the Calais coast and passionate about his music since the age of 13, to present the Bowie Odyssey exhibition at the Forum Gambetta. More than 1,000 items are on display: rare objects, original documents, vinyl records, press kits including vintage media such as the precursor to the laserdisc and Ludic cartridges from the 1970s, photographs, and other memorabilia. The exhibition retraces 50 years of the career of this multifaceted artist: author, composer, performer, film actor, and stage actor—his performance in Broadway's Elephant Man as John Merrick, though less well-known, deserves special mention. Fifty prints by Mick Rock, an iconic photographer of the 1970s, are also featured. In partnership with Radio France's record library, several hundred record sleeves are on display, along with a jukebox for listening to the recordings. The exhibition is bilingual (French-English) and also designed for a British audience. Collector weekends and record fairs are scheduled throughout the exhibition.
