A beach shaped by the tides

The Hemmes beach in Marck is unlike any other in the region. It's not a swimming beach: it's a living, natural space, entirely governed by the rhythm of the tides. At low tide, the sea can recede to infinity, revealing an immense playground where the wind almost never leaves. At high tide, the same space is transformed, the foreshore disappears, and the coastline regains its original dimensions. Visiting here requires checking the tide times beforehand and accepting that the place reveals itself at its own pace.

Land sailing and wind sports

It is on this coastline that wind sports enthusiasts have found their natural playground. Land sailing, kite flying, speed sailing: activities follow one another with the wind and the seasons. The Hemmes de Marck land sailing center, located on Avenue de la Mer, offers supervised introductory sessions accessible to all. No prior experience is necessary to feel the acceleration on the sand and understand why this place attracts enthusiasts.

An exceptional natural space

The Hemmes beach in Marck is part of the natural area of the Dunes of Fort VertTypical of the North Sea coastline, dunes, marshes, polders, and wetlands coexist in a fragile balance. The area is particularly popular with birds during migration, so much so that a bird ringing station has been established there. Viewpoints and observation points are scattered along the nature trails. On a clear day, the silhouette of the Walde lighthouse can be seen on the western horizon. To get closer, follow the Taaf Dyke to the Huchette beach.
