On the tarmac of a century-old airport
The flight simulator is being installed at Calais Airport, whose aeronautical history began in 1902 in a pasture in Marck. It was from there that Louis Blériot took off on July 25, 1909, for the first crossing of the English Channel by airplane. The current airfield, chosen in 1937, was inaugurated in 1954 with its grass runways, before becoming the fourth French airport in 1961, linking Calais to England.
Renamed Calais-Dunkerque in 1974 and then Grand Calais International Airport, it now hosts tourist, business and training aviation, alongside the Calais Aeroclub.
